- Description
- Lewis Waller (1860-1915), probably the original matinee idol of the London stage, became identified with the character of D'Artagnan in the adaptation of Dumas's Three Musketeers by Henry Hamilton, first performed in 1898. Waller, however, was also a distinguished theatre manager and Shakespearian actor, particularly noted for his performances as Henry V and Hotspur.
